This annual event was founded by Eno River Media in 2015.  Eno River Media sponsors the Miss Carolina Lily Talent Pageant.

The mission of the Miss Carolina Lily Talent Pageant is to promote health, fitness and inner beauty among women of all ethnic groups while producing positive role models for the community; to develop women that will promote self-confidence, self-worth, moral, academic  and social support for our youth; and to recognize and support sustainable green initiative within the film and television industry and our state.

As part of the green initiative for the film and television industry, the winners of the Miss Carolina Lily Pageant promote this Arbor Day Holly Tree Planting event!

American Holly Trees are perfect, if you are looking for an easy-to-grow hedge or specimen tree. They require minimal watering and grow in a variety of climates. Resists mildew, disease and insects. Even pruning is easy.

Thick branches grow out from top to bottom, making it great for screening and privacy. Plant your holly trees 4-5 ft. apart for a dense wall that blocks out neighbors and noise. Matures to about 20-30 feet tall.

This tree received the coveted Gold Medal from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society in 2001 for its ability to easily grow in a variety of conditions.

These holly trees are a delight
Creamy white flowers bloom in the springtime, giving you a wide variety of color over the seasons. New growth will have a reddish tint, but will quickly turn green.

This erect, evergreen large shrub or tree reaches 40 to 50 feet in height and 20 to 40 feet wide. Leathery dark green leaves have pointy, scalloped edges. Small green berries appear in late summer, maturing to crimson by autumn and persisting through the winter. Some ripen to yellow or orange. Use American holly as a specimen tree or in a woodland garden.
Care:Grow in moderately fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Hollies are dioecius, so a few male plants are needed for a female plant to produce berries. Can be kept shrub-like by pruning in the spring. Plant or transplant in spring.


Grows in full sun or partial shade, moist or drained soils, including clay, sand and everything in between. Prefers Growing Zones 5-9.

Attributes:

History/Lore/Use:
The American Holly tree has been popular since the beginning of American history, having served the Native Americans with wood for many different applications and berries that were used for buttons and barter. It was said to be a favorite of George Washington, and more than a dozen Hollies planted by him are still in evidence today. It is also widely known as the basic raw material for Christmas wreaths. The first scientific observation of the American Holly tree was recorded in 1744.

Normal moisture requirement, though it tolerates some flooding and has good drought tolerance.

Leaves:
The leaves are 2 to 4 inches long, leathery, green all year and sharply tipped on the margins.

Flower Color:
Whitish-green; pleasant fragrance; attractive to bees.

The red, berry-like fruit is popular with a variety of birds.
